ELIZABETHTOWN — The Cape Fear Farmer’s Market in downtown Elizabethtown will host the Fantastic Shakers on Thursday for the third show of the Summer Sounds Concert Series at 6 p.m.
Admission is free and food and drinks will be available for purchase — both Sunset Slush and Cape Fear Chicken & Bar-B-Que will be on hand for the event. There will also be concert T-shirts available for $12 each.
The extended forecast shows temperatures in the upper 80s with partly cloudy skies.
Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Dawn Maynard said she is excited about the concert.
“Weather permitting, the crowd be like it was for our first concert or larger. The Fantastic Shakers are a very well known beach music band who have been around for a number of years,” said Maynard.
According to the band’s website, the Fantastic Shakers began in 1978 and were known as “the South’s Finest Show Band.” The band has toured the East Coast of the United States with stops including New York and Florida. One of the band’s songs is a familiar favorite to many beach music lovers — “Myrtle Beach Days.”
Maynard said that she is pleased with the support the community has shown for the Summer Sounds Concert Series and is expecting that support to continue.
“We hope to make it into an annual event,” said Maynard.
She added that farmers are encouraged to set up during the concert, but must adhere to all of the rules of the Farmer’s Market.
“This event welcomes farmers to set up and showcase their wares,” said Maynard.
Farmers wishing to set up can obtain applications and information regarding set up from the Elizabethtown Town Hall located at 803 West Broad Street.
Maynard said any sponsors of the concert who wish to give out items or set up a booth at the concert venue are also encouraged to do so by calling the Chamber office at 910-862-4368.
Maynard said that DJ Daryl Jackson of 105.3 will also be broadcasting live from the event. In the event of inclement weather, Maynard said folks can check with the local media outlets for any changes in the schedule.
The Summer Sounds Concert Series will wrap up on Thursday, Aug. 27, with the Blackwater Rhythm and Blues Band.
