Lady Eagles whitewashed
TEACHEY — The Lady Eagles hit the ball on the nose Monday night, but often right at Wallace-Rose Hill defenders as the Lady Bulldogs took a 5-0 win over visiting East Bladen.
“We hit the ball well, but right at people,” East Bladen coach Patty Evers said.
The loss drops the Lady Eagles to 6-7 in the Four County Conference and 8-7 overall.
Miller Heustess twirled the first five frames of the game for East Bladen and gave up all five runs on seven hits — including a two-run home run — while walking just one. She struck out two.
Lacey Suggs came on to pitch the sixth inning for the Lady Eagles and fanned all three batters.
East Bladen could account for just three hits on the night, all by catcher Lexi Dawson, who went 3-for-3 with a double. Abby Ward worked her way on base with a pair of walks.
Eagles fall to Bulldogs
Also in Teachey on Monday, East Bladen couldn’t hold an early lead and fell 7-3 to Wallace-Rose Hill in a Four County Conference matchup.
The loss drops the Eagles to 4-8 in the conference and 5-14 overall.
East Bladen opened up a 3-2 advantage after three innings of play, but the Bulldogs took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the fourth and added three more in the fifth against Eagles pitcher Alex Coates.
East Bladen stroked eight hits in the game, but could have had more — except for the Wallace-Rose Hill defense. Eagles coach Russell Priest said his boys “hit the ball hard, but they made some plays.”
Colby Hester had two hits, including a triple, for East Bladen and Cameron West had a pair of singles.
