RED SPRINGS — West Bladen got a two-hitter from pitcher Nicole Wyatt and the Lady Knights scored four runs in the third to send South Robeson to the consolation bracket of the Robeson County Slugfest on Tuesday with a 6-1 loss.
The win also send West Bladen to the championship game for the fourth straight year.
The Lady Mustangs nicked Wyatt for an unearned run in the top of the first, thanks to the lone error of the game by the Lady Knights.
West Bladen knotted the game with a run in the sceond when Alanna Ludlum put down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to bring a runner home.
The West Bladen offense erupted in the third inning, fueled by a three-run wallop by Wyatt that cleared the fence and helped the Lady Knights to a 5-1 lead.
West Bladen added a run in the fifth to seal the win.
“Our pitching a defense was exceptional,” said West Bladen coach Pam Stephens. “It took a while to get the bats going.”
Wyatt was 2-for-3 at the plate with the three-run home run, and she twirled the two-hitter with six strikeouts and just one walk.
Courtney Thompson was also 2-for-3 and had a double, while Josie Ludlum was 1-for-2 with a double.
