ELIZABETHTOWN —On Monday, Jan. 20, the nation will observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day — and so will downtown Elizabethtown with a parade and luncheon.
The celebration will kick off at 11 a.m. with the annual Martin Luther King Jr./Community Memorial Parade to honor the Rev. King’s birthday. The parade will line up near Elizabethtown Town Hall on West Broad Street and move through downtown Elizabethtown before ending at the Bo’s parking lot on South Poplar Street.
Big Show of Big Show Auto Finish is also attempting to get 1,000 motorcycles, 1,000 cars and trucks to participate in the parade — and is expecting to feed 5,000 people on that same day. Big Show says the event is free and they are accepting donations of food and drinks.
At about noon, following the parade, the celebration will continue at the P.A.C. Building at Elizabethtown Presbyterian Church where a free MLK meal will be served. The guest speaker for the luncheon will be Lonnie Robinson and the choir rom Elizabethtown First Missionary Baptist Church will perform.
