ELIZABETHTOWN — The folks at Healthworks Fitness & Wellness want to help you get into great shape and are now enrolling folks for the Biggest Loser Challenge program.

Folks who are interested in the Biggest Loser program don’t have to be members of the fitness center to enroll, but Manager Heather Dean said there is a fee for the program. For members the cost is $100 and for non-members the fee is $170. The program will be take place between Feb. 15 and May 31.

“For non-members, that covers gym membership for those months,” said Dean.

Healthworks’ Biggest Loser Challenge will be styled after the television show with the same name, added Dean.

She said participants in the program will be working with a personal trainer three or more times per week and there will be a class each Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

“The classes will cover topics such as heart health, nutrition, designing a workout, family involvement, the importance of stretching and things like that,” said Dean.

Initially, Dean said, that everyone will be divided into two groups and given T-shirts with the group’s color.

“We won’t vote anybody off or send anybody home. Instead, we will have an underdog team,” said Dean.

The weigh-ins will be conducted each Saturday. Team members will be ranked based on the amount of weight lost or gained. This will also determine who will move to the underdog team and who will remain with their original teammates, said Dean. She said there will be four group challenges that the participants will be taking part in as well.

The challenges include either a basketball challenge or a bicycle challenge; a group run; a group swim; and a weightloss carry where the participants will be given backpacks with weights equal to the amounts they have lost to carry one mile.

The last weigh-in will be done on May 31 and there will be first-, second- and third-place prizes awarded. The prizes will consist of a gym membership, free massages, Minuteman gas cards and other prizes, said Dean.

“It’s kind of a competition in a way,” said Dean. “This is completely new.”

To sign up for the Biggest Loser Challenge program, Dean said interested folks can come by Healthworks Fitness & Wellness and they will be given an application and more information about the program. Healthworks is located at 1001 West Broad St. in Elizabethtown, behind O’Reilly’s Auto Parts.
