CLINTON — Courtney Thompson controlled the boards for visiting West Bladen, but Clinton controlled nearly every other aspect of the game Friday to roll past the Lady Knights for a 76-49 Four County Conference win.

The loss drops West Bladen to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference, tied for second with Clinton.

While the Lady Dark Horses couldn’t keep Thompson from hauling in 25 rebounds, West Bladen couldn’t keep Clinton’s MiKayla Boykin from scoring. The freshman sensation tallied a career-high 38 points that included four three-pointers along the way.

The Lady Dark Horses stampeded the visitors from the start, racing out to a 25-10 first-quarter lead they would never give up.

The second quarter was much more balanced, but Clinton outscored West Bladen by an 18-15 margin and went into halftime holding a 43-25 lead.

Very little had changed when all was said and done in the third quarter — except the score. Clinton outscored the Lady Knights 17-15, and inched its lead forward to 60-40 with 8 minutes to play in the game.

The Lady Dark Horses did take their foot off West Bladen’s collective throats in the fourth quarter, posting 16 points and holding the Lady Knights to just nine down the stretch.

Thompson’s 25 rebounds, along with her 17 points, led West Bladen and was her 12th double-double of the season. She now has 1,205 career rebounds, placing her in 12th place in the state all-time.

Taylor Stephens contributed 16 points for the Lady Knights.
