E’town man killed in Sunday wreck

LUMBERTON — A 37-year-old Elizabethtown man was killed and his wife and three young children were injured in a single-car crash on Sunday night.

Manuel Sanchez Perez, of Pine Tree Lane, was thrown from the front passenger’s seat when his wife lost control of the car at about 7:19 p.m., according to a report filed by Trooper David Raynor of the state Highway Patrol.

Anabell Arroyo, 25, was driving on N.C. 41 near Sibley Road when the vehicle drifted off the right side of the road, the report said. The vehicle overturned and came to a stop on its roof in the road. Perez was not wearing a seat belt, the report said.

Arroyo, who was wearing a seat belt, was flown to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where she is in critical condition, according to the report. According to the report, Arroyo was not speeding.

The three children, Sandra Santes Arroyo, 3; Salma Santes Arroyo, 5; and Manuel Arroyo, Jr., 6, were all taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, the report said,

Perez was pronounced dead at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
