REIDSVILLE — The Lady Knights’ tennis program made some noise at the Class 2-A East Regional in Reidsville on Friday, but by the end of the second round, the West Bladen season was over.
In singles action, Josie Ludlum earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Kayleigh Sledge of Roanoke Rapids in the first round, while teammate Alicia Ludlum — the heir apparent to the Lady Knights’ No. 1 singles spot next season — dropped a 6-0, 6-0 verdict to the tournament’s No. 1 seed, Lydia Yuan of the North Carolina School of Math & Science.
In the second round, Ludlum was defeated by Madison Poupard of Franklinton, 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles action, the West Bladen duo of Madison Staton and Alanna Ludlum took a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 win over Peyton Meinsen and Addie Nixon of Roanoke Rapids in the first round, but teammates Amber Long and Tatianna Sturgis lost to the NCSMS team of Gabrielle Beaudry and Rebecca Liu, 6-2 and 6-0.
In the second round, Beaudry and Liu knocked off West Bladen’s Staton and Alanna Ludlum by a 6-2, 6-0 score.
“It was another successful year for the Lady Knights tennis program,” said West Bladen coach Jeff Atkinson.
