ELIZABETHTOWN — East Bladen used a trio of goals in the second half to claim a 3-0 Four County Conference soccer win over county rival West Bladen on Monday.
After a scoreless first half, the Eagles wasted little time after intermission getting on the board.
Just 3 minutes into the second half, Colby Hester intercepted a West Bladen pass and found Joel Cromartie near the front of the Knights net and hit him with a perfect pass. Cromartie did the rest, blasting a 10-yard strike to the back of the net for a 1-0 East Bladen lead.
It was all the Eagles needed.
West Bladen threatened moments later when Clay Allen maneuvered with the ball through the East Bladen defense, but Eagles netminder Matt Massengill put a stop to the effort ahead of a shot on goal.
About 12 minutes later, East Bladen doubled the lead when Alex Felder won control of a corner kick and blasted a shot into the West Bladen net.
The two teams battled back and forth for the next 19 minutes before Felder found Hester with a pass that Hester took the rest of the way and scored to seal the Eagles’ win.
East Bladen outshot the Knights by a 14-3 margin.
— In Dublin on Tuesday, the Lady Knights whitewashed East Bladen 9-0 in the season’s Four County Conference finale.
In singles action, sisters Josie Ludlum at No. 1 and Alanna Ludlum at No. 4 each earned 6-0, 6-0 wins for West Bladen. Amber Long gave up just one game at No. 6 for a 6-1, 6-0 win, as did Madison Staton at No. 3.
The Lady Knights swept the doubles matches, all by 8-0 scores.
— In Burgaw on Tuesday, the Lady Patriots of Pender County took a 3-0 win over East Bladen in Four County Conference action.
— In Rocky Point on Tuesday, Heidi Trask stumbled in the second game but rebounded to finish off a 25-18, 22-25, 25-18 and 25-17 Four County Conference win over West Bladen.
Morgan Sweeney led the Lady Knights with 20 service points and four kills, while Taylor Stephens was right behind with 18 service points. Codi Pait chipped in 14 service points with five aces and Mallory Davis had 10 kills.
Courtney Thompson contributed five kills, two blocks and two aces for West Bladen.
— In Dublin on Wednesday, Clay Allen scored a hat trick for West Bladen, but it wasn’t enough as Union took a 7-3 Four County Conference win.
