Lady Knights fall in volleyball; rain halts tennis

FAIRMONT — After taking the first match 25-19 against Fairmont High on Tuesday, the Lady Knights of West Bladen dropped the next three matches in the non-conference matchup 21-25, 20-25 and 25-27.

The loss dropped West Bladen to 1-1.

Courtney Thompson led the Lady Knights with 17 service points, three aces, four blocks and three kills. Teammate mallory Davis contributed 14 service points along with nine blocks, seven kills and a trio of aces.

Taylor Stephens had 13 service points for West Bladen and Morgan Sweeney had 10 service points.

Codi Pait turned in a solid match for the Lady Knights with nine service points, three aces and three kills.




— In Fairmont on Tuesday, West Bladen’s match with Fairmont was interrupted by rain with only two matches completed.

No date was set for the meeting to be continued.

Alicia Avellaneda, the Lady Knights’ No. 2 player, won her match by an 8-4 verdict, while Tatianna Sturgis dropped her match at No. 4 singles, 8-1.

Matches not completed included: Josie Ludlum was knotted at 7-7 in the No. 1 singles match; Madison Staton trailed 6-3 at No. 3 singles; and Alanna Ludlum was knotted at 1-1 in the No. 5 singles match.
